River North

River North sits just across the Chicago River from downtown. It has the highest concentration of art galleries in the Midwest outside a museum, plus late-night jazz and blues rooms that have been open for decades.

The Merchandise Mart, once the largest building in the world, anchors the south edge. From there the Riverwalk runs east to Michigan Avenue, where you can pick up an architecture boat tour from the dock by the bridge.
